Tonina met grammy award winning producer, songwriter, and guitarist, Javier Limon in Valencia, Spain where she studied abroad in 2015. Javier produced her debut album "Black Angels" which will be released in Spring 2018. Together they have performed at the American Society in New York, The National Auditorium of Madrid, The Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogota, Colombia, as well as Boston, Miami, and Mexico.
It all started when...told by Javier Limon
"When I teach production at Berklee, I know I'll spend many hours of recording time and after so many years I prefer to work with students on a song rather that an instrumental piece. It is not an educational issue but something completely subjective. It's just more fun when someone sings.
I got to a class in Berklee’s Valencia campus and when I asked which song we were going to produce and who was going to sing, the students replied they were all instrumentalists, no singer. My disappointment manifested in my face, the bass player raised her hand and told me she could sing and that she knew a song in Spanish her father had taught her. I immediately thought I had got into a mess, now I had an upright bassist from Missouri that wanted to sing in Spanish!
But as soon as Tonina opened her mouth and began singing Historia de un Amor, suddenly everything changed. Like only few times before in my career, I felt that the world stopped and the room lightened up. A small miracle had just occurred
In a world where everything seems to have already been listened and sung, a young girl in her 20's naturally and unintentionally, expresses with her voice in a completely unique and personal way. I could employ the most sophisticated words to try to define the texture of her voice, but would surely fail. I can only recommend you find a moment of peace, close your eyes and listen to Tonina sing. Word by word, syllable by syllable, it reaches your soul."
